The project

A major driver in this development was a thermal-performance fabric to help lower fuel bills alongside a rapid on-site build to allow local people to move into their new homes quicker than a traditionally built masonry development.

The design

Jenner Contractors were appointed to construct a 2 and 3-storey building, providing 8 affordable rented flats for people over the age of 50. The flats were built in an area where surrounding buildings were listed so the flats were designed to fit in with the vernacular of the local housing. Many of the sites were at the end of roads no larger than 3 metres wide. To make the project yet more challenging, the sites were also located in existing residential developments and surrounded by occupied homes. This made all cranage, deliveries, and waste removal tricky. However, by pairing all the benefits of offsite construction with working alongside our accredited construction partners, these challenges were overcome and the new homes were built on schedule with minimal disruption to the local community.
