The Project

Additional building to accommodate six ICT Classrooms

TMV Architects prioritised an innovative design for the new classroom block, integrating natural light and ventilation for student comfort and a pleasant environment. The exterior has a contemporary finish using textures, tones, and details. This approach aimed to break away from traditional school designs to create an attractive modern space.

Critical deadlines and minimising disruption during the school term were key, with Kingspan ULTIMA chosen as the preferred solution due to its:

Offsite construction: Allowing for a fast on-site build of the timber frame with each panel prefabricated offsite, including the upper and lower roofs delivered in cassette form to improve construction efficiency.

Thermal performance: To help reduce heat loss and achieve the desired levels of airtightness to meet the project requirements.

Collaboration for a Smooth Build

"Ashe Construction's familiarity and trust in Kingspan ULTIMA played a key role in their decision to use this build system," Eleanor from TMV Architects explains. "This was our first time working with Kingspan ULTIMA and we were impressed by the timely responses of the technical team and their extensive product knowledge. Their expertise made the entire process incredibly user-friendly."

A true three-way collaboration ensured a smooth project. Our technical team, client, and architects worked together to finalise the drawings for efficient manufacturing. While open communication and expert advice on standardised details for the build system kept the project on track.

A Timely Completion and a Source of Pride

Completed on schedule, the project allowed the school to transition into the new academic year. The finished building stands out as a point of pride for both staff and students, a testament to its functionality and aesthetics. Both students and teachers were impressed by the new classrooms commenting on good thermal comfort, lighting, and acoustics.

Building Regulations

Even though the project was approved before the June 2022 changes to Part L of the Building Regulations (focusing on the conservation of fuel and power), the walls and floors still achieve the new standards highlighting the quality and efficiency inherent in the Kingspan ULTIMA products.
